Every LacquerPick article is built to answer one practical question: which polish should I use, and how do I wear it? This page explains how we choose the shades we recommend, where our information comes from, how our images are made and how we keep articles accurate. It sits alongside our full Editorial Policy.
Who writes LacquerPick
Articles are written and edited by Tayyaba Waqas, a beauty writer focused on nail color, polish formulas and everyday manicures. You can read more about the site on our About page.
How we choose the shades we recommend
- Named, findable polishes. We recommend specific shades by brand and name (for example OPI Malaga Wine) rather than vague color descriptions, so you can find the exact bottle.
- Widely stocked lines first. We favour long-running core shades from brands sold at major drugstores, salons and online retailers, because limited editions are often hard to find.
- Color, finish and undertone. For each shade we describe its color family, finish (crème, sheer, shimmer, pearl, metallic or glitter) and the undertones it tends to suit.
- Practical fit. We consider how easy a shade is to apply at home, how many coats it usually needs and what occasions it suits.
Sources we check
- Official brand shade names, descriptions and finish information
- Retailer listings for availability and current formulas
- Product packaging and manufacturer instructions for application, wear and removal
- Established color theory for undertones and skin-tone guidance
Manufacturer claims are reported as claims, not as our own test results.
What we will never do
We do not claim to have tested, worn or photographed a product unless we actually did. We do not invent wear-test results, tester panels or star ratings. If an article includes first-hand observations, it says so clearly.
About our images and swatch cards
Many of our articles use illustrated swatch cards and nail-design graphics that we create ourselves. They show each shade and design so you can compare looks at a glance. Colors in illustrations are close approximations of the named shade, not product photographs, and every screen displays color slightly differently. Always check a real swatch or the bottle before buying. Image alt text and captions say when an image is an illustration.
When we use photos from other creators, we will only do so with permission and with a credit naming the creator and the shade shown.
Skin-tone and undertone advice
Our skin-tone guides, such as nail colors for dark skin, pale skin and olive skin, are starting points based on contrast and undertone. There are no rules about who can wear which color; the best shade is the one you enjoy wearing.
Updates and corrections
Shades are discontinued and formulas change. We review articles regularly, replace discontinued picks and update seasonal guides before each season. If you spot an error or a shade that is no longer available, please tell us through our Contact page and we will review it.
Affiliate links and advertising
LacquerPick may earn from display advertising and, in future, affiliate links. Commercial relationships never decide which shades we recommend. See our Disclaimer for details.
